Findings and Remedial Measures

The primary route to the Texas Gate from the public street and sidewalks, the public transportation stop, and the passenger loading zone is inaccessible. This route includes three public walks that start at the traffic circle and converge on the Texas Gate. Each of these walks has portions with slopes greater than 5% (1:20) that constitute ramps. Each walk has locations that exceed the maximum allowable slope of 8.33% (1:12) for a ramp and lack handrails and an intermediate level landing.

e) no audio description is offered in the Hands-On-History room; and

Accessibility will be provided by:

a) alternate formats for exhibit label content and publicly available printed materials;

b) an audio-described tour on a walk-in basis. This tour includes all major attractions in the Center and tactile access to objects that cover the major themes of rooms, displays, and exhibitions;

c) audio description of the videos shown in theaters and the exhibition spaces; and

d) audio description of videos and computer interactives in the Teacher Resource Room upon advance request.

There are no accessible routes to these areas. A notebook with selected color photocopy images and text descriptions of the 2^nd and 3^rd floor spaces is provided. The notebook does not reflect the current room arrangements, finishes, and collections and does not include the basement. The notebook does not convey the same information as provided by the guides.
