I. Building Entrance Issues
Entrance Location
A. Entrance to First Floor Post Office (East side of building)
The entrance to the first floor of the post office is inaccessible.
The width is inaccessible.
The maneuvering space is not level.
There is a 4.2% slope at the exterior side of the post office/bookstore entry door.
There are a pair of 27 ½" doors.
There are no directional signs.
Remedy:
1. Make the pair of 27 ½" doors automatic doors instead of having to re-do the steep maneuvering space. Standards § 4.13.6, 4.13.12, Fig. 25.
2. Provide accommodations for students with disabilities so they can use the bottom three rows of mailboxes. 28 C.F.R. § 36.305.
B. Entrance to First Floor Student Recreation Center (East side of building)
Remedy:
1. Install a directional sign indicating that the accessible entrance is the entrance to the first floor post office at the East side of the building. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.
C. Entrance to Second Floor Stairs, Lobby & Office of Director of Student Activities (South side of building)
There is insufficient maneuvering clearance (7 ¾") at the entry door.
There are no directional signs.
Remedy:
1. Install directional signage indicating that this is an accessible entrance. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.
2. Ensure that there is a minimum of 18" on the latch side of the door to provide sufficient maneuvering clearance. Standards § 4.13.6.
II. Accessible Route Issues to Student Spaces
Interior Routes by Floor Level
A. First Floor Bookstore
The interior route to the first floor bookstore is inaccessible.
There is less than a 12" latch side maneuvering space at the entrance door.
There are no accessible room signs.
Remedy:
1. Move the door to the right or install an automatic door opener. Standards §§ 4.13.6, 4.13.12.
2. Install accessible room signs. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.
B.Second Floor Student Services
The interior route to the second floor student services is inaccessible.
Remedy:
1. Make the services that occur on this floor available to students with disabilities at an accessible location. 28 C.F.R. § 36.305.
III. Primary Student Spaces
Student Spaces
A. First Floor Recreation Center Offices
The first floor recreation center offices are inaccessible.
Remedy:
1. Make the services that occur on this floor available to students with disabilities at an accessible location. 28 C.F.R. § 36.305.
B. First Floor Director of Student Activities
The first floor Office of the Director of Student Activities is inaccessible.
Remedy:
1. Make the services that occur in this office available to students with disabilities at an accessible location. 28 C.F.R. § 36.305.
C. Second Floor Student Activities (RA Resource Room, Yearbook, Newspaper, GRD Office, Student Govt. Office)
The student activities on the second floor are inaccessible.
Remedy:
1. Make the second floor student services available to students with disabilities at an accessible location. 28 C.F.R. § 36.305.
IV. Restroom Accessibility
Student Restrooms
A. First Floor Unisex Restroom
There is no wrap at lavatory piping.
The paper towel dispenser is not accessible.
Remedy:
1. Wrap the piping if this lavatory has hot water. Standards § 4.19.4.
2. Move the paper towel dispenser to an accessible location on the wall next to the door. Standards § 4.4.
B. Second Floor Restroom
Remedy:
1. Install a directional sign indicating that the accessible restroom is the first floor unisex restroom. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.
V. Miscellaneous Accessibility Issues
The mail room postal counter is 41" above the floor and the main drop slot is 53" above the floor.
There are no visual fire alarms at either the first floor or the second floor.
There is no signage with raised or brailled characters at each floor.
Remedy:
1. Leave the postal counter as is but put in an additional compliant counter at 30". Standards § 4.32.4
2. Install visual fire alarms on the first and second floor in accordance with the requirement in paragraph 12 of the Agreement. Standards § 4.28.3.
3. Install signage with raised or brailled characters at each floor. Standards § 4.30.4.
