I. Building Entrance Issues:


            A. Main entrance to 1st floor (North side)

 

There are 3 risers at the entry exterior.


            The entry pair of doors are 28½ wide.

 

There are no directional signs to the accessible entrance.

 

There is inadequate maneuvering space at the main entrance.

 

There is inadequate level maneuvering space at the main entrance.

 

Remedy:

 

            1.         Create a new accessible entrance to Falk on the old Quad side, including accessible doors. Standards § 4.13.5. (Door width)

            2.         Install new accessible ramp to that entrance.

            3.         Ensure adequate maneuvering space at the main entrance.

            4.         Provide directional signage to new accessible entrance. Standards §§4.1.3(16)(b), 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.



            B. Secondary (Ramped) Entrance to 1st Floor (South side)

 

There is offset at the threshold.

The ramp leading to the secondary entrance to the 1st floor has a 8.6% slope without a handrail.

Upper portion of ramp has 13.3% slope with a handrail only one side of ramp.

            No 12" extensions at ramp handrail.

Latch side maneuvering space of 9" at interior of entry door.

There is inadequate maneuvering space at the secondary entrance.

There are no directional signs to the secondary entrance.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Because the slope of the ramp is too steep, install a new ramp at this entrance that complies with the ADA Standards

 

            2.         Ensure that there are handrails with 12" extensions on both sides of the ramp. Standards § 4.8.5(2), Fig. 17.

 

            3.         Bevel the area around the existing threshold to provide a smooth transition from ramp to entrance. Standards § 4.13.8.

 

            4.         Provide directional signage to the accessible entrance. Standards §§ 4.1.3(16)(b), 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

II. Accessible Route Issues to Student Spaces:


            Interior routes by floor level

 

A. Ground Floor (Classrooms & Offices)


            No room signs.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide raised and braille room signage. Standards §§ 4.1.3(16)(a), 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.


 

            B. 1st Floor (Classrooms & Offices)


            There are steps in the corridors and between buildings.

 

There is a fully compliant ramp from 1st floor of Falk to 1st floor of Braun.


            The door hardware (knobs) is inaccessible.


            No room signs.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Install accessible door hardware to replace knob hardware. Standards §  4.13.9.

 

            2.         Provide raised and braille room signage. Standards §§ 4.1.3(16)(a), 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.


 

            C. 2nd Floor (Classrooms & Offices)


            There are steps in the corridors and between buildings.

            The door hardware (knobs) is inaccessible.

            The door width to classrooms and offices is not accessible.

No room signs.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

            2.         Install accessible doors. Standards § 4.13.5.

 

            3.         Provide raised and braille room signage. Standards §§ 4.1.3(16)(a), 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.

            

III. Primary Student Space Issues:


            A. Ground Floor Classrooms and Offices


            There are steps in the corridors and between buildings.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Access from Falk to Braun (with elevator between its floors) is provided via 1st floor interior ramp.



            B. 1st Floor Classrooms and Offices

 

There are steps in the corridors and between buildings.

            The door hardware (knob) is inaccessible.

            TVs mounted on classroom walls are protruding objects.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

            2.         Address the issue of protruding objects. Standards §§ 4.4.1, 4.4.2.

            3.         Access from Falk to Braun (with elevator between its floors) is provided via 1st floor interior ramp.



            C. 1st Floor Lobby


            The lobby has two pairs of 28¼" doors.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible doors in the lobby as link to the new ramped entrance on the old Quad side. Standards § 4.13.5.

 

            D. 2nd Floor Classrooms

 

            There are steps in the corridors and between buildings.

            The door hardware (knob) is inaccessible.

            TV mounted on classroom wall is a protruding object.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

            2.         Remount TV or place something under the TV to address protruding object issue. Standards §§ 4.4.1, 4.4.2.



IV. Restroom Accessibility:


            A. Unisex Restroom (Ground Floor)


            Lavatory is mounted 35" above floor.


            Lavatory has no wrap at piping.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Adjust lavatory height to requisite height. Standards § 4.19.2.

            2.         Provide wrap at lavatory piping. Standards § 4.19.4.


V. Miscellaneous Accessibility Issues:

 

Freight-only elevator provided.

 

No visual alarms provided in classrooms or student lounge

 

No 12" extensions on step handrails.


            Remedy:

            1.         Install visual fire alarms in the classrooms and the student lounge in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 12 of the Agreement. Standards § 4.28.3.

 

            2.         Provide 12" extensions at interior step handrails. Standards § 4.9.4(2).
