Attachment L:  Access to Brunswick's Programs, Services, and Activities

Within six months of the effective date of this Agreement, the Town of Brunswick will implement and report to the Department its written plan regarding how the programs, activities, or services held in the following facilities have been made accessible to persons with disabilities.

1.      Police Department:  The door to the holding cell is inaccessible because it has an opening width of only 20 ½ inches.  Instead of making architectural modifications, the Town agrees to enact and implement a policy that individuals who are unable to use the holding cell will be transferred to the accessible Cumberland County Sheriff's facility for bail or incarceration.

2.      55+ Center (1st building): The stairs to the Healing Room are inaccessible.  Instead of making architectural modifications, the Town agrees to hold Healing Room services on the first level upon request.

3.      55+ Center (Activity Hall): The stairs to the basement are inaccessible.  Instead of making architectural modifications, the Town agrees to hold activities normally held in the basement on the first level upon request.

4.      Old High School ("AB" wing):  The ramp into the hallway near the cafeteria, which holds the annual book fair, is inaccessible because it has an excessive slope of 9.5 degrees and no handrails.  Instead of making architectural modifications, the Town agrees to hold the event at an accessible location or install a temporary ramp for the weekly event with a slope not exceeding 1:12, a cross slope not exceeding 1:50, and with accessible handrails.  Standards §§ 4.3.8, 4.8.

5.      Perryman Village (polling):  The exit used during polling is inaccessible because of an excessive slope (5.5  degrees) on the built-up curb ramp at the back door.  Instead of making architectural modifications, the Town agrees to allow individuals with disabilities to use the accessible entrance as an exit.
