For a forward approach, if the depth of the alcove is greater than 24 inches (610 mm), then in addition to the 30 inches (760 mm) width, a maneuvering clearance of 6 inches (150 mm) in width is required, for a total width of 36 inches (915 mm).
For a parallel approach, where the depth of the alcove is greater than 15 inches (380 mm), then in addition to the 48 inches (1220 mm) length, an additional maneuvering clearance of 12 inches (305 mm) in length is required, for a total length of 60 inches (1525 mm).
